Community Engagement Specialist, AmeriCorps VISTA
Bay Aging is recruiting for a person keenly interested in engaging with community development activities for a vibrant, rural region in eastern Virginia. Emphasis will be on leveraging partnerships with other community resources from a broad range of service providers via community needs assessment and service coordination/referral system. An excellent opportunity for a person interested in rural community planning and development, health and human services or public management to assess and implement processes that connect people to services! This is a full-time position offering a stipend of approximately $12,000 for the year. The benefits through AmeriCorps VISTA are great! In addition to the living allowance, the successful applicant receives a relocation allowance if moving 50 miles or more to a new community; an end of service award of $5,815 to pay for a range of education expenses; healthcare benefits; access to a federal agency hiring “fast-track”; professional development training (via AmeriCorps and Bay Aging); generous leave time; child care benefits for children under the age of 13; and more. All benefits information can be found at VISTACampus.gov/in-service/benefits-service. AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America), is a national service program designed to fight poverty in America. Bay Aging believes the AmeriCorps VISTA member brings an added dimension to the organization and as such, has successfully hosted 2 previous VISTAs. The VISTA is critical as needs are identified and referral systems developed for low-income families of all ages to gain access to the services they need to live more healthy and productive lives. Stationed in Bay Aging’s central office in Urbanna, Virginia, the AmeriCorps VISTA member will make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve the Bay Aging project. As part of the Development Team, we will analyze the trends and needs within this large rural area through qualitative and quantitative methods and then formulate recommendations for regional improvements to fill the needs gaps. The Team will develop a final report to be published for distribution. As part of this effort, the VISTA member and the Team will increase coordination and cohesiveness among service providers to create an interactive hub to make referral processes to other services more efficient and far less confusing for the person seeking services. The VISTA will assist the Team to create deliverables that educate the community, while adding to their own professional portfolio. Bay Aging serves the ten counties of the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck in eastern Virginia. The mission is to deliver the programs and services that people of all ages need to live independently in their communities for as long as possible. In addition to being an Area Agency on Aging, Bay Aging is a Community Action Agency committed to the community development of the region. This is done through the continuous growth and by leveraging partnerships with other community resources and providers. Go to www.bayaging.org for more information. Work / Terms: Full-time position.
